A few weeks ago I came home to a box on the front porch. I was on the phone with my best friend and my 2.5-year-old was having a meltdown because he didn’t want to go home yet. It confused me because my husband didn’t tell me he was having anything shipped to the house. It was a big box and when I finally saw the writing I knew my husband surprised me with the Instant Pot. I didn’t ask him for it he made a comment about the lid on the crock pot. I told him how I tried to replace the lid but it’s an old model and then I was hoping one day to get an Instant Pot. When I got an Instant pot, I would throw the crock pot out. A few days later this arrived.
I’m not to keen on how big these devices are and I’m unsure where I will store it especially since I just organized the shelves downstairs and didn’t leave a spot for the crock pot let alone the Instant Pot. I will find a new home for it but first I need to use it. I posted on a mom’s group asking people for some recipes and I didn’t get many hits. I know once I get used to it I will be more adventures. I just want to make sure I don’t break it after one use. When I finally sat down and looked up recipes, I found a few that required more work than making food on the stove. Isn’t this supposed to be quicker? I learned quickly I did some research on which one to buy, but did not take the time to see how to operate it. I finally found a recipe I thought would be simple enough to do on my first try.
I went with the 8 quarts because I would rather have the option to make more than having to get a bigger one later. I plan on buying another insert so I can make rice with a meal, since I threw my rice cooker away. I looked over the recipe I picked and realized that the second step was a little confusing. As I stated above, I did none research on how to use it. I started off using Sautéand had to switch over to the pressure cooker, high, for 3 minutes. I didn’t figure this out until right before I had to do this step. I figured it out quickly but I should have taken the time to look over the manual.
This recipe is simple, delicious, and a big hit for my husband and I. I made it spicer because we like a kick.
One thing I did not take into consideration when getting rid of my crock pot. I now have to wash the pot. I use liners so all I have to do is wipe the pot out but now I have to use some elbow when I’m finish. My best friend will be happy about this since she is zero waste and isn’t a fan I use the liners. I made a second meal tonight but took no pictures. It was chicken with potatoes. It was a hit because the chicken was juicy. I’m so afraid to under-cooked chicken I often over cook it. Now using the Instant Pot I have a feeling our food will be juicer. I haven’t planned out any more Instant Pot recipes for the rest of the week and since my new goal is to use everything we have in our freezers and cabinets over the next few weeks. I will have to hold off on making any new recipes unless I can find one that includes items I already have. I believe I need to continue to use this to give an honest opinion on how I feel about it. I’m excited to continue to use it and I’m looking forward to cooking corn on the cob and considering making yogurt for the boys.
